8083 Module 5 Discussion 1:

Making Data-Driven Decisions

As a teacher leader, you have examined the need to involve families in the assessment process and how to communicate assessment data to families. You have also looked at how to share data with stakeholders. Many early childcare programs are taxpayer supported; therefore, accountability and accountability policies continue to evolve. As an early childhood educator, making data-driven decisions in a climate of accountability becomes more and more important.

A large part of data-driven decision making is tied to being able to provide a rationale for selection of assessment, analysis of data, and use of data for the benefit of student learning. As you have moved through this course, you have examined the strengths and weaknesses of multiple assessments for a variety of age levels. Now, you will consider efficacy of use and accountability as a part of the process of assessment.

To prepare:

Read and reflect on the Learning Resources of this module.

Research accountability with a focus on early childhood education.

Consider how data and data-driven decisions can demonstrate accountability in early childhood education.

Assignment Task Part 1

In 1 page explain  the ways assessments could potentially demonstrate efficacy and accountability in the learning environment.

Note potential issues that could occur as part of the accountability “push.”
