Analytical Report

In this unit, you will draft your analytical report section by
section, according to the IMRaD structure. Analytical reports share a
similar structure called IMRaD (Introduction, Methods, Results, and
Discussion). The IMRad structure is often used in scientific writing and
may be referred to as the Scientific Method, but it can be adapted to
many different report genres.

We will also address integration of data displays to enhance the
presentation of research results. Chapter 18 reviews graphics in
technical documents. Graphics are used to reinforce important ideas or
to help readers understand complex concepts.

Objectives
After completing this unit, you should be able to

• Construct an analytical report with the IMRaD structure, including Front and Back Matter portions
• Clearly convey results of your research, including visual displays of information where appropriate
• Apply document design strategies to add visual structure to
  documents, especially the use of front and back matter in a formal
  written report.
• Articulate guidelines for using graphics effectively.
• Create a data display and combine it with written text.
