Build Academic Progress for Students

Student-athlete advisors strive to improve the academic standing of the athletes in their program. As you have seen by the videos regarding the policy known as the Academic Progress Rate (APR), an importance is placed on academic retention.

For this week’s assignment, develop a strategy and discuss what you would do if you were placed in charge of a student-athlete retention program to help students recognize the importance of satisfactory academic progress, as required by the NCAA. In your program, what would your strategies be—such as study halls, counseling sessions, tutors, and so on—to achieve the goal of ensuring satisfactory academic progress?

Be sure to give a brief overview of the continuing eligibility standards for the NCAA Division I and II athletes and how your strategies would help meet standards.

Your assignment should address the following, but is not limited to:

  • Class-standing status
  • Definition of Academic Good Standing
  • Significance of Satisfactory Academic Progress
  • Probation rules
  • Ineligibly scenarios
  • Disqualification/reinstatement requirements

Your paper should demonstrate thoughtful consideration of the ideas and concepts that are presented and provide new thoughts and insights relating directly to this topic. Your response should reflect scholarly writing and current APA standards. Review APA Form and Style.
