General Module Questions/Prompt.   1. Baseball is both national and imperial, global and highly localized. Within all this distinction, is it possible to find common meanings about what the sport has meant to the different communities that have embraced it?
  2. What does baseball tell us about Latino identity in the United States? What is brought to light by examining the social meanings of baseball within this context? What does it teach us about migration, ideology, community, race, assimiliation, or difference?
  3. The German social scientist and philosopher Carlos Marx spoke of religion as “the sign of the oppressed creature, the heart of a heartless world and the soul of soulless conditions. It is the opium of the people.” If we substitute “sports” for “religion,” do we have an appropriate language for talking about sports?
