One of the most important research development discoveries is that of COVID antibodies and immunity. Because of COVID antibodies, researchers have been able to exam the natural acquired immunity to COVID (Spellberg, Nielsen, & Casadevall, 2020). This article describes the importance of antibodies in developing adequate herd immunity to essentially curb, unfortunately not eradicate the disease (Spellberg et al., 2020). Throughout history, researchers have found that sufficient levels of herd immunity do eventually halt the spread of the disease (Spellberg et al., 2020). Research is still needed to assess if COVID antibodies provide protective immunity and more evidence is needed to determine this, at least until effective vaccines are provided globally (Spellberg et al., 2020).Unfortunately, there is no medication approved by the FDA to “cure” this disease, so prevention is the current strategy to limit and decrease the spread of this virus (Guner, Hasanoglu, & Atkas, 2020). Health care personnel can help implement these prevention measures by encouraging early screening, isolation, and infection control measures such as hand washing and wearing masks (Guner et al., 2020). Healthcare workers should also encourage people avoid crowds and avoid people who are ill if able (Guner et al., 2020). Another important, recent development in the COVID pandemic/crisis, is the development of a mRNA COVID vaccine. Trials of the COVID vaccine have shown promising results in the efficacy and the safety of this vaccine, which can provide immunity to this horrible disease (Heaton, 2020). Between communities continuing prevention control measures and eventually receiving the COVID vaccine, we can hopefully soon, eradicate this deadly disease.
