Team Discussion: Social Media Marketing

After conferring with your team below Unit 10 in your team’s Discussion area, you will respond to your Discussion topics as a team posting in the Unit 9 Discussion area. Be sure to identify your team in your postings.

In this Team Discussion, you will engage in the development of the following professional competencies:

  • Meet project deadlines as a team.

These competencies also are critical to your success in most jobs.

Companies are increasingly using social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter as part of ongoing business practices. The purpose of this exercise is to help you understand the impact of corporate social networking on the success of an organization. You will be divided up into teams of students in this exercise per the instructor. Your responses should be substantive and follow the Team Discussion Rubric guidelines (as seen below) for the Team Discussion in order to receive the maximum number of points.

Unit 9 Team Discussion: Execute the following instructions:

Each group will identify a company of interest that engages in corporate social networking.

Students are encouraged to select companies with social networking sites that they have

personally used in the past. The company may be public or private, for-profit or non-profit, and

provide goods or services.

Once a company has been identified,

10 and work together to devise the best response to each of the questions below.

collective answer post, one team member will post the team responses to be made here in

Unit 9 on the left hand navigation bar. (It is a good idea to decide who will make each of the

three posts and who will respond for the team at the beginning of your collaboration.

Each team will post three times as a team posting on three different days beginning with the

first post due by Saturday per the Syllabus.



What social media website(s) does the company utilize?


Who is the company’s target market? Does the company do a good job of targeting

these individuals through its social networking site? Why or why not?


Compare the company’s social networking site with its official website. How does the

content and language differ between the two sites?

4. Social media objectives are listed in Chapter 18 in section 18-2b. Identify the company’s

primary social media objectives based on actual communications on its social

networking site. Be sure to provide examples.

5. Describe the promotional methods that the company uses to market products or

services on its social networking site.

6. What do you recommend that the company do to stay on top of current social media


Before your team begins discussion, all members should read the “Rules of the Road”

document located below along with the Team Agreement (this is optional, but it can be very

helpful). This will assist in creating a respectful and aligned interaction among your members.

Rules of the Road:

1. Attack the problem and not the person.

2. When negotiating with team members, provide options rather than ultimatums.

3. Make sure to use Netiquette as seen in your Syllabus, when working in teams.

4. It is advisable to make a team agreement (at least assign tasks) as to individual

responsibilities which will aid in producing a better team deliverable.
