Choose one (1) of the three (3) reading selections from the list of topic choices below. The focus is on brief but important primary source material written by important authors. In each case, the subject relates to the problems of certain people who are oppressed or impoverished. In each topic, a different genre or approach is adopted to help readers see and perhaps address the problem. Read the selections as identified with each topic below. Write a four-to-five (4-5) paragraph essay (350 words minimum) which analyzes the work following the list of four things “your paper should cover” given just after the topics.

Topic Choices

• Reading selection of Swift’s A Modest Proposal. The selection should be read in full athttp://www.victorianweb.org/previctorian/swift/mod…. It is essential to recognize the genre of this work, as discussed in our class text (pp. 781-3 in chap. 24), which you should consult and cite. The context is the plight of the very poor in Ireland in the early 1700s.
• Reading selection from Equiano’s Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano, written in 1789. This selection can be found in chapter 26 of our class text on pp. 877-8 (with background on pp. 869-872). The context is the process of enslavement and then passage across the Atlantic.
• Reading selection of Olympe de Gouges’ Declaration of the Rights of Woman and the Female citizen (written in 1791). The selection should be read in full at http://chnm.gmu.edu/revolution/d/293/ with background provided on p. 852 of our class text. You should also look at the revolutionary document of 1789 that she is “correcting”, called Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen (http://avalon.law.yale.edu/18th_century/rightsof.a… ). Olympe de Gouge has the status of women as her main concern. The general context is the French Revolution and the attempts to redefine rights and status once one replaces monarchy.

For the reading selection and topic you choose, your paper should cover the following:

1. Briefly introduce the writer and the situation that this reading is about. Identify the genre or nature of the reading.
2. Using specific examples or lines within the reading, suggest the author’s key views and key aims for the reading audience.
3. Evaluate the author’s strategy and what you see as the work’s likely effectiveness (or lack of effectiveness) for the target audience. If there is any known historical result, discuss that.
4. Evaluate how the reading impacted you. Identify any analogous situations today, and also key lessons you get from the reading that could be relevant to one’s professional and personal life.

Your assignment must follow these formatting requirements:

• This course requires the use of Strayer Writing Standards (SWS). The format is different than others Strayer University courses. Please take a moment to review the SWS documentation for details.

• Include a title page containing the title of the assignment, your name, the professor’s name, the course title, and the date of submission. The cover page and the source list are not included in the required assignment length (350 words minimum).
• You must the class text and also any source(s) identified (with links) above for the topic you choose, focusing on the main primary source of that author. If you use any additional source (optional), it must be from the university’s online Library and of good academic quality for college work.

The specific course learning outcomes associated with this assignment are:

• Explain how key social, cultural, and artistic contributions contribute to historical changes.
• Explain the importance of situating a society’s cultural and artistic expressions within a historical context.
• Examine the influences of intellectual, religious, political, and socio-economic forces on social, cultural, and artistic expressions.

• Identify major historical developments in world cultures from the Renaissance to the contemporary period.
• Use technology and information resources to research issues in the study of world cultures.
• Write clearly and concisely about world cultures using proper writing mechanics.

Identify the crucial components of a viable “FPC 65” COOP plan. Identify a ‘Critical Infrastructure / Key Resource’ organization for your COOP plan, provide a description of the CIKR function provided by the organization, and delineate the ‘essential functions and activities’ required to provide that function or service.

The FEMA document attached as coop-multi-year_plan is most helpful.

To clarify….

Review the FEMA Multi-Year Guide. My entities is (Jefferson Torresdale Hospital). Determine what critical infrastructures and key resources the entity provides and uses.

Describe briefly why each CI/KR is important.

Use Annex C of the FEMA plan as a guide to write a brief report of your entity’s COOP.

Please note the instructions below and especially

the questions you must answer in the paper. This will be worth 15% to 20% of your grade

in the course. Grades will be determined by:

1) The originality, effort and extent of the research you put in to the answers;

2) Showing good annotations and references to other literature you have used

to support your answers;

3) The extent to which the Principles of Management and Organizational Behavior (OB)

theories and cases support your conclusions.

Overview

Each of these individuals introduced Management and OB changes in their organizations

and achieved dramatic results on an industry and/or worldwide basis. Each has a list of

“10 Rules for Success”. Each has other, more extensive interviews on you-tube or elsewhere

in the literature.

Assignment Methodology

1) Print out and compare the 10 rules for success?

2) What similarities and differences do you see amount the 3 leaders?

3) What was their thinking on management styles and orgazational structure?

4) With reference to (3) above how did they go about implementing their ideas on management

and organizational strcuture?

5) What results were achieved from the time they made those changes to actually seeing the results?

This can be measured via productivity, market share, profitability, increases in sales or accessing and

becoming successful in new markets or products;

6) What are the results of the company’s performance to date? Jeff Bezos is the only one still in charge

while Welch retired and Jobs passed away from an illness.

Portofino Company’s fiscal year ends December 31.

1. Use historical exchange rate information available on the Internet at www.oanda.com to find interbank exchange rates between the U.S. dollar and each foreign currency for the period December 15, 2012, to January 15, 2013.

2. Determine the foreign exchange gains and losses that Portofino would have recognized in net income in 2012 and 2013, and the overall foreign exchange gain or loss for each transaction. Determine for which transaction it would have been most important for Portofino to hedge its foreign exchange risk.

3. Portofino could have acquired a one-month call option on December 15, 2012, to hedge the foreign exchange risk associated with each of the three import purchases. In each case, the option would have had an exercise price equal to the spot rate at December 15, 2012, and would have cost $200. Determine for which hedges, if any, Portofino would have recognized a net gain on the foreign currency option.
