Ecotourism

Post a total of 3 substantive responses . This includes your initial post and 2 replies to other students or your faculty member.

In Chapter 6, you read about the importance of conserving natural resources through sustainable practices. Ecotourism, sometimes called “sustainable tourism,” is one step people can take toward ecological responsibility.

When ecotourism is implemented successfully, it:

uses the financial gains of tourism to support the conservation and preservation of the environment.

encourages businesses in the tourist industry to implement “green” policies and practices in their daily operations.

challenges travelers to adopt mindfulness, awareness, and sensitivity to cultural and environmental needs around the world.

benefits members of indigenous communities through economic growth.

For example, an Alaskan cruise company might take passengers through Glacier Bay National Park and provide facts about glaciers in relation to climate change. Passengers can disembark for a day at ports of call (such as Anchorage, Ketchican, and Skagway) to experience the wildlife and nature in those habitats.

Respond to the following in a minimum of 175 words:

Think of an ecotourism event you have experienced or research one that occurs near your community. Describe the event or destination by explaining the environmental features that attract tourists. What are the benefits of that ecotourism? What are some disadvantages? Consider incorporating the details above in your response.

I am from Memphis Tn, and I stay 5 minutes away from Elvis Presley’s Graceland home. Even though I have never visited the place myself. It is always a buzzy destination. Since 1982 Memphis has seen an uptick in tourism since Graceland became open to the public. The mansion and surrounding grounds have actually attracted visitors from nearly every country in the world. Aside from being a beautiful place, Graceland was famously known as the home of Elvis Presley after he purchased the home in 1957. On August 16, 1977 Elvis died at Graceland. After, Elvis former wife Priscilla Presley and the executors planned to open Graceland to the public. By June 7, 1982 graceland was open to the public for tours and since hosted more than 20 million visitors from every state in the union and nearly every country in the world. Because of this EPE has increased tourism in Memphis and continues to welcome over 500000 visitors annually and has become one of the five most visited home tours in the United States.

I think Louisiana is well know for its tourism, ecotourism specifically, not that anyone calls it that. I have pretty much experienced ecotourism all over the state of Louisiana. Here we have a good amount of state parks, camp grounds, fishing tours, swamp tours, and Global Wildlife. I enjoy visiting the Tickfaw State park, it is less that 20 miles from my house, it is a very peaceful and scenic area. I usually go for a hike or a bike ride on the scenic trails. The camp ground that I enjoy the most is located in Robert, LA. It has many open trails, lakes, birds, and other wildlife to enjoy. A lot of tourist come from all over to experience our charter fishing and swamp tours. And Global Wildlife houses thousands of exotic and endangered animals from all over the world such as zebras, kangaroos, deer, bison.

I think ecotourism is beneficial in the fact that it brings awareness and knowledge of a specific area. For example the swamp tours here in Louisiana show case wildlife in its most natural form and a much preserved ecosystem.

Global wildlife is a non profit that brings awareness to the animals that are threatened and endangered.

A disadvantage may be that some people do not take pride in the areas mentioned above. Often times I notice that people are careless when it comes to picking up after themselves so that contributes to pollution in those areas

ADULT FACILITY EVALUATION essay

Adult Facility Evaluation, Essay

This might be an adult day-care facility, or senior-living retirement home, for example. Your task is to evaluate the physical environment to determine if it supports safety and accessibility for elderly adults with varying physical disabilities.

You will build on this design in constructing a hospice center, which is the focus of the Portfolio Project Option #2.

[Note: If you are unable to conduct a site visit, see the alternate assignment, below.]

Directions:

  • Select three of the following five rooms to evaluate—bathroom, bedroom, kitchen, living room, or entry way. You want to ensure that a sensible, functional, and easily accessible approach is applied that is consistent with daily living needs. (Keep in mind that senses, perception, and ease-of-movement deteriorate with age and illness.)
  • For each of these rooms, indicate what should be present, eliminated, or altered in some way, based on the following considerations:
  • ease of movement into and out of the space, especially in terms of accessibility for those with reduced, limited, or no fine and gross motor abilities (e.g., use of walker or wheelchair)
  • the chance for accidents, particularly for those with limited senses/perception and movement
  • flexibility and adaption to the person’s changing needs and enabling him/her to have continued independence for as long as possible.
  • Indicate what modifications (one per room) would have to be implemented when the person transitioned from independent living to an assisted-living or nursing-home facility.

Alternate Assignment

If you are unable to conduct a site visit due to physical disabilities or access issues, you may instead write a research paper on the best practices in the design of nursing homes or assisted-living facilities. Address all the questions above and follow the Paper Requirements, below.

Your paper should be 2 pages in length and conform to CSU-Global Guide to Writing and APA (Links to an external site.). Include at least three scholarly references in addition to the course textbook. The CSU-Global Library is a good place to find these references.

Chase Sapphire: Creating a Millennial Cult Brand – Related questions

Please read the attached case “Chase Sapphire: Creating a Millennial Cult Brand” and answer the 3 following questions.

1. The value of individual adopters of the Reserve card will depend on their behaviour: how much they spend, whether they pay all of their charges in full each month, and whether they renew their card annually or not. As noted on page 3 of the case, customers can be classified as transactors, revolvers, and dormants. Assume the following for each group:

Transactors

Spend $16,000 per year.

Carry no credit balance

Renew the card at $450 annual fee.

Revolvers

As for transactors, but carry a credit balance of 50% of annual spend.

Dormants

Spend only enough to earn the sign-on bonus

Carry no credit balance

Do not renew the card after a year.

Calculate the margin Chase earns at the end of the first year for each group. Assuming a 5 year horizon, and ignoring the time value of money, calculate the lifetime value, whether positive or negative, of each group.

2. What is your assessment of the Chase Sapphire Reserve card’s customer acquisition strategy?

Where has it been successful in assembling a portfolio of users, and where does work need to be done?

What do you make of the 100,000-point sign on offer?

Why reduce the offer to 50,000 points?

Should Chase have pre-announced the end of the 100,000 point sign-on offer (in other words should they have told customers early in January that it would end later in January) and have kept the offer in place until March for people who applied in person to a branch?

3. At the time of the case (July 2017) what actions do you recommend that Codispoti and Serra take to manage the Reserve product and customer base? What actions do you recommend for managing the broader Sapphire portfolio?

23. Research indicates that learners typically receive little formal instruction in the use of study strategies. Why is this the case? Are study strategies best taught within the context of a particular content area, such as history, or are they better taught “context-free?” Why do you think so?

reply 1:

4. Define metacognition, and explain how it can influence learning.

Metacognition is “cognition about cognition”, “thinking about thinking”,”knowing about knowing”, becoming “aware of one’s awareness” and higher-order thinking skills. It also is awareness and understanding of one’s own thought processes. How metacognition can influence learning is the act of thinking about their thinking helps them make greater sense of their life experiences and start achieving at higher levels. Metacognition is very important in my opinion in the classroom to help students be able to expand their minds and to fully get a better understanding while using time to thoroughly think about different subjects in the classroom

reply 2:

The increasing use of computers and technology in the future may allow younger children to increase their memory traces. Technology is so popular in schools today, there is no telling how technology will be in schools five years from now. It will for sure increase, but how advanced will it be? Technology allows us to grasp any information we need, quickly, using the internet. One of the bad things about the internet is that a lot of the information we find is not correct. If used correctly, it can be powerful for eduction. I had the opportunity to work in a kindergarten classroom, and the kids were using computers better than I did when I was in grade school. It just goes to show how appealing it is especially for younger ages. It helps increase their memory at a younger age, thus showing improvement through the use of technology and computers.
